Annual Yard Sale

Students in fourth and fifth raised over 1,000! Thank you all for your generosity!

Parents,

Our annual 4th and 5th grade yard sale will be on Friday, the 21st.  Students will need to bring the items they want to sell, money to make change, (I recommend quarters, and dollar bills),and decorations, ( if they choose to decorate) by Friday morning.

The kids have created their business plans at school as well as their advertisement posters.  All students have a keen sense of what they need to do at home to prepare for this event.  The intention is for the students to have full ownership of their “business”.

Students are asked to sell their items in increments of .25 cents in order to make change easily. Pricing cannot exceed 10.00. (I have reminded students to not sell anything they are not ready to let go.)  All change and start up costs will be sent back home with your child on Friday. All profits will stay at school to be calculated on Monday.  All students have decided on a percentage of their profits to go to the Tomi Schaffer’s Scholarship which will also be calculated on Monday.

If you have any questions, please email me.

Revolutionary War Museum Due March 16th

I need to have your proposal by Thursday; remember, this is the gist of what you want to do.
You will not be approved based on first come first serve, but you will be chosen to represent part of the war based on your idea for the display.
You will need to have a title, and key guides for all of the objects on display. You need a tablecloth for your display table, and if you wish a tri-fold board.
You will need to ensure that your display focuses on your title.
The look of the display items should be authentic. You can make the items, print pictures, paint your own, purchase materials, or borrow materials. I have many items you may be able to use. I do not want anyone spending a lot of money on their display.
I encourage you to be creative. You do not have to stay within the limits of the table or tri-fold. If you have a hands on activity, or different concept for your display, I am open to it. Make sure to include what you plan to do in the proposal.
The actual date of the museum will be on Friday the 17th. Parents are welcome to sign in at the office to visit our museum. It will be open to the school as a whole.
This grade for the next nine weeks.

St. Joseph's Hearts and Cards Party

🎴
Image result for casino night
This year, St. Joe will be hosting the Hearts and Cards event instead of our annual Mardi Gras. This is an adult evening out complete with dinner, casino games, dancing, silent auction, and a cash bar. Each class will be making an auction item that you are able to bid on during the silent auction. Mrs. Dempsey is hard at work helping our class to create a wall hanging out of a small pallet. I'm very excited about this unique piece, and I'm sure it would make a great addition to anyone's home! This event takes place on February 11th from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase in the office.

Mrs. Casto's Homeroom Valentine's Day Party

Valentine's Day falls on an awkward Tuesday this year, which is never a good day for a party, therefore we should try to keep it simple. We will likely just partake in treats, pick our favorite Valentine's Day containers, open our Valentines, and watch a Valentine's themed show. If you would like bring a Valentine's Day treat, that would be great. I have listed what you would like to eat below.  There are 15 students in our class.

Do you see what is wrong?

Be sure to give a Valentine to each fourth grader. If you want to give Valentines to people in other classes that is fine.
** Suggested Items: plates, cups, punch, water, Jello, chocolate covered strawberries, cookie hearts, cupcakes, chocolate bacon, fruit, doughnuts, pizza or breadsticks, chips.  Please do not feel obligated, I am happy with anything.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Take a few moments this weekend to remember the man that used his powerful words to help cause a great change in our history.
I regret that we are not going to get to spend that time I would like discussing this great man. Please watch the link to his "I Have a Dream" speech. It is a reminder to me every time I listen that our words have unbelievable power.
Just as Thomas Paine changed the world with his words, so did Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
